Canoe Club History

Hui Wa'a O Wakinikona had it origins 6 years ago.  Due to the popularity of the sport of Hawaiian Outrigger Canoeing and more importantly, it's emergence into the Pacific Northwest as a popular regional gathering, our parent club the Wakinikona Hawaiian Club voted for the creation of a club canoe team with the purpose of perpetuating the Hawaiian culture associated with paddling, competing in various racing events and club participation.  The Club has since acquired 4 canoes since it's inception and works together with it's sister club The Seattle Outrigger Canoe Club in promoting Hawaiian culture through paddling practices, races and organized events.  Stop by Lake Union, along Gas Works Park on a Saturday morning and it is likely that you will see our team in action paddling through the waterway.
